The Last Minute Jug Band

The Last Minute Jug Band is an official award winning Jugband; taking first place in the prestigious 2026 Annual Battle of the Jug Bands competition. This local, long running annual event dates back to the late 70’s and was founded in the heart of the vibrant West Bank Minneapolis music scene by local music legends such as Dave “Snaker” Ray, “Spider” John Koerner and Tony “Little Sun” Glover, among many others.
Recruitment for The Last Minute Jug Band began at the White Squirrel in December of 2023 (shortly before the registration deadline for the annual Jug Band competition) and without an official band name or complete band; the namesake was born. And true to form, the band has managed to pull together a growing list of band members (at the last minute) over the years to play the annual jug band event.
The Last Minute Jugband will be playing the entire song list from “Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions”. This is an early recording of Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir & Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, playing together in a Jug Band before they formed the Grateful Dead; as captured by a college radio station at a coffee shop in 1964.
Come to see the coveted Waffle Iron trophy on display and experience some authentic jug band music played on Banjo, Mandolin, Resophonic Guitar, Harmonica, Washtub Bass, Washboard, Kazoo, Saw and of course a Jug or two….
