Joe Finstrom w. Flutes & Low, Boots & Needles

Wednesday July 29 @ 9:00 pm - 12:00 am

Joe Finstrom is a Minneapolis based songwriter, musician and audio engineer. His most recent project is a folk inspired EP with americana and grunge influences. As a songwriter Joe is inspired by experiences rooted in personal connection brought to life in music through the lens of growth and understanding. Musically he draws from a wide variety of styles and genres from popular to classical.

As a cellist and bass player Joe has been involved in bands and orchestras in the area since 2006. He also released an indie-pop record in 2022 under the name Vincent van Beethoven which was played on national indie radio and received positive reviews. As an audio engineer Joe has worked freelance and is also the owner of Peachy Gnome, a local audio studio. He also teaches private music lessons at Music Lab in South Minneapolis.

Flutes & Low is the folk duo project of Ben Pichler and Cambria Haen. Since meeting and playing music together in Duluth, they have put their musical talents together to create lush sounds and memorable melodies. Deeply influenced by the rich landscapes of the Midwest, their music is pastoral as it is touching.

Inspiration is drawn from artists like Bon Iver, Damien Rice, Penny and Sparrow, Bonny Light Horseman, and Iron and Wine. Flutes & Low relies on the beauty of a simple arrangement, traditional folk structures, and the power that music can hold with few instruments and two voices.

The pair’s name-sake comes from the Gerard Manley Hopkins poem “Inversnaid”. The poem’s moody natural elements bear a striking resemblance to the frigid midwest environment that has shaped the band’s upbringing.

The pair has just completed a new debut album. The self-produced 11-song record titled “Lay Fallow” is set to release this spring on March 20th, 2025.

Boots & Needles combines the talents of Lauren Asheim and Dallas Cornell and features Vintage Country, Traditional, and Rockabilly vibes.  You may recognize Lauren from past bands including The Hula Peppers and Slippery People.  She has also trod the boards as an actor and vocalist all over the Twin Cities including the Guthrie Theater, the History Theater, Mixed Precipitation and more.  Dallas brings a wealth of musical skills and an eye for design to the duo and also plays with the Cornell Power Service.  Known as the “human metronome” and a skilled sewing artist, he is full of surprises.  On lead guitar is the incomparable Darryl Cornell! On fiddle and vocals is the fabulous Aubrey Weger! On bass is the very solid and creative Makai Catudio! They aim to share their love of all things country with some sparkles and dirt and a few more unexpected pairings along the way…
